The government will build new residential cities in the south and southeast of Seoul near Hanam and Gwangmyung with the size of 300,000-1,500,000 square meters. According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation and Korea Land & Housing Corp. on July 17, the government is pushing forward with a plan to create new "mini" cities in Gambuk-dong and Choi-dong (Hanam), Gwangmyung, and Shiheung.
Currently Korea Land & Housing Corp. is reviewing the feasibility of potential sites and is set to announce the final results by September this year. This is the first time for the government to reveal new housing construction plans in the Seoul metropolitan area since 2011. Actually the areas under consideration were designated earlier as public housing sites by the government.
In addition, the government will establish high-tech industrial zones near the sites as part of an effort to create jobs in places where people reside.
