Song Young-gi, a lawmaker of the ruling Minjoo Party, will leave for Russia on May 22. He is one of the last four special presidential envoys dispatched by newly elected President Moon Jae-in to major countries including the United States, China, Japan, and Russia.
The special envoy to Russia will depart Incheon International Airport in the afternoon of the 22nd and deliver a letter from the President to his Russian counterpart President Vladimir Putin.
When meeting President Putin, Rep. Song will also deliver a message of the new government that it is committed to undertaking economic cooperation projects in areas such as natural gas exploration while requesting to actively involve in resolving the North Korean nuclear issue.
The envoy had visited the Kremlin upon invitation of President Putin in 2013 when he was Mayor of the Incheon metropolitan city.
